What to do about an itchy scalp condition...
Amazingly, on occasion I will see an individual who comes in as a patient who has endured years and years of itching and scalp irritation.
This does not have to be!!!
Except in younger children, itchy scalp problems are usually due to seborrheic dermatitis or other variants of eczema that can affect the scalp. There may or may not be flaking present along with the itching.
Topical anti-inflammatory medications ranging from over the counter to prescription versions of cortisone products can usually stop the itching within a week or two. In more stubborn or severe cases, localized injections of the same types of medication can provide relief or improvement within a few weeks as well.
So, if you have been experiencing an itchy scalp problem for a while and nothing has helped, schedule an appointment right away or let me know if you have any interest in an online consultation and we can explore using this as a way to get you the medication that you need.
